4. Non-Controlling Interest Units of limited partnership interests in the Operating Partnership (“OP units”) that are owned by limited partners other than the Company are included in non-controlling interest on our consolidated balance sheets. The outstanding OP units held by outside limited partners represents less than 1% of our outstanding OP units and are redeemable for cash, or at our option, for a like number of shares of our common stock. No OP units were exchanged for shares of common stock or redeemed for cash during the year ended December 31, 2016. We exchanged 46,290 OP units held by our non-controlling interest holders for the same number of shares of our common stock during the year ended December 31, 2015. For the year ended December 31, 2014, we redeemed 131,093 OP units held by our non-controlling interest holders for cash of $1.8 million. The non-controlling interest holders are generally allocated their pro rata share of income, other comprehensive income and equity transactions. |
